Informatica, the cloud data management giant, claims to be offering the first "data governance" software designed specifically with the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation in mind.

The GDPR comes into force everywhere in the EU in May next year. Informatica Data Governance & Compliance, as it calls itself, is designed to engage banks' business, IT and data security teams in the job of 'governing' data of all types – data in the cloud, data on the premises and big data anywhere throughout their organisations.

This collection of software routines is part of the Informatica Intelligent Data Platform, Informatica’s metadata and artificial intelligence-driven platform that also spans data in the cloud, data on the premises and big data anywhere. Like so many other software vendors, Informatica is claiming that the GDPR poses many problems but might also create opportunities to allow financial firms to manage their data better.
